Growing of coffee in India is mainly done in the highland states of the country. Highlands in India are found in the South. The Kamataka region controls more than 70% of the total coffee produced in India. You will never find any other better shade grown products than India coffee beans. Types of coffee beans grown in India

In this section, we will discuss the main types of coffee grown in the country.


You might have noted that this type of coffee is cultivated in almost all countries in the world. However, Arabica coffee beans grown in India are unique from the rest. Besides the well balanced aroma, these coffee beans boast of a sharp taste together.

Coffee beans in India are picked from November and January. This coffee variety thrives well in high elevated land. Keep in mind that altitudes in India varies from 600 meters to about 1200 meters above sea level. Almost all coffee growing regions in India have high humidity and favorable weather conditions. Remember that coffee needs rich and nutritious soil to thrive accordingly. It is the fertile soil that has favored the growth of Arabica coffee in these regions.

Robusta coffee

When compared to the Arabica coffee variety, the Robusta variety is twice caffeinated. Robusta coffee is characterized by a complex and strong taste. You will identify it with hints of grainy and peanuts aftertaste. In most cases, these coffee beans are grown at low altitudes. Additionally, the beans are picked in the period between December and early February.

The best thing about Robusta coffee beans is that they will survive any weather condition. They are also resistant to crop diseases and pests. Although Robusta is considered as a low grade when compared to the Arabica variety, you will like the high end of this coffee variety. It is loved by many people because of its strong taste. Another notable thing about Robusta is that they take less time to produce fruits when compared to Arabica.

Coffee varieties by region in India

Tamil Nadu

This type of coffee is grown in the anamalais region. High amounts of rainfall and high elevation are some of the main conditions that favor this type of coffee. The unique thing about Arabica beans from this region is that they are big and with a greyish appearance. Additionally, these coffee beans boast of a better balanced aroma.

Andhra Pradesh

This type of coffee is grown at an altitude of about 1100 meters above sea level. The most common coffee variety in this region is organic Arabica coffee.
