Like all other things, coffee in this country has been faced by numerous problems for decades due to political and civil war. You might be aware that this country has been faced by constant wars for many years. Civil wars have resulted in a lack of good infrastructure and social inequalities. Over the years, we have witnessed coffee growing in Congo moving from large plantations in the former colonial government to small scale farming. Small scale farmers are the majority in Congo. They own about 100 crops.

The flavor and taste profile

Coffee beans from Congo come with a unique taste such that they have a unique and full body. Unlike in other African countries, coffee in Congo is grown at high altitudes. Actually, these coffee beans are high grown and dense. This means that they can stand extremely high temperatures. This makes the beans suitable for dark roasting.

The flavor of Congo coffee beans is similar to that of Burundi. Also, you can mistake this type of coffee with Rwandan coffee. The reason behind this is that Congo coffee and Burundi coffee share the same climatic conditions for growth.

Coffee production in Congo

Coffee farms in Congo are mostly located in the eastern region of the country. These farms have been able to sustain the growing industry for quite a long time. Additionally, the coffee growing regions in this country are characterized by good rainfall and high altitudes. You will find fertile soils in these coffee growing areas.

Many things have emerged as a result of coffee growing in Congo one of them being agriculture taxes on the exports. This is happening to counties which border Rwanda and Uganda. Coffee produced in this country is packed and later sold to other countries. There is no evidence that indeed the coffee originated from the country. However, such kind of instances has stopped.

All such instances have resulted in the international community visiting the coffee production areas of Congo. Furthermore, Congo has experienced significant investment in processing coffee stations and washing stations. This has played a huge part in helping farmers produce high quality coffee since farmers have been shown how to grow quality coffee that will sell in the global coffee market.

Final Thoughts

Congolese coffee beans are processed using the washing method. From there, the beans are dried out in the sunshine. Although Congo coffee is not very popular in the global market, the beans are of the same quality with that of other East African countries. Processing of coffee is done carefully to ensure that only high quality beans are sold to the international market.
